Reflex Security launches intrusion-prevention system initiative

October 9th, 2006

ATLANTA, GA – Reflex Security, Inc. announced its new IPS Everywhere initiative, a six-month plan to deliver comprehensive IPS services to various security-critical enterprises.

IPS, or an intrusion-prevention system, is device that protects computers and networks from exploitation. An IPS is similar to a firewal in that it is a form of access control; however, unlike traditional firewall technologies, IPS make access control decisions based on application content, rather than IP address or ports. An IPS may also serve at the host level to deny potentially malicious activity.

“We see a gaping hole in competitors’ IPS product offerings,” said Jim Watson, CEO, Reflex Security. “Not only are existing IPS solutions difficult to work with, but many vendors are moving to multi-function security appliances, managed security services, and other expansions of their business before they’ve solved the most fundamental problems associated with preventing intrusions: accurate detection and enterprise-wide coverage.”

Reflex Security’s “IPS Everywhere” is designed to protect against distributed and general denial-of-service attacks, which are attempts to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. It is also designed to stop potocol usage violations and anomalies, as well as other violations, by blocking internal and external threats.

Reflex Security was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Atlanta.
